SMS gateway settings

Connect Twilio or MSG91 to SigmaCart for customer verification and order communication. This guide covers provider setup, secure credentials, OTP messages, store-owner alerts, and delivery troubleshooting.

Choose an SMS provider

Configure at least one gateway, test it successfully, and select it as the default provider before enabling SMS features.

Before you begin

Keep gateway credentials private, confirm destination-country support, and review local sender registration and messaging regulations.

Twilio setup

Create a Twilio account and connect an SMS-capable sender to SigmaCart.

Create and verify your Twilio account. Sign in to the Twilio Console after completing the required account verification.
Obtain an SMS-capable number. Use the assigned trial number or purchase a Twilio number that supports the destination countries you serve.
Open SMS Settings. Navigate to the SigmaCart SMS configuration page and select Twilio as the default gateway.
Enter the credentials. Copy the sender number, Account SID, and Auth Token from the Twilio Console.
Save and test. Send a test message and check the Twilio message logs if delivery fails.

Twilio configuration fields

SigmaCart field	Twilio value	Purpose

Account SID	Twilio Account SID	The account identifier displayed in the Twilio Console.
Auth Token	Twilio Auth Token	A secret credential used by the Laravel backend to authenticate API requests.

Twilio trial accounts

Trial accounts can send messages only to verified recipient numbers and may have additional restrictions. Upgrade the account and complete any required sender registration before production use.

Protect your credentials

Never expose the Twilio Auth Token in the Next.js browser bundle or a public environment variable. Store it only in the Laravel backend. For production, use restricted Twilio API keys when supported by your SigmaCart integration.

MSG91 setup

Configure MSG91 for transactional customer messages and order notifications.

Create and verify your MSG91 account. Activate the SMS service needed for transactional communication.
Create the SMS Flow or template. Add only variables supplied by SigmaCart, such as OTP, order number, or order amount.
Register a Sender ID. Create or map the sender name permitted for your destination country and route.
Create an Authkey. Give the key only the permissions required to send SMS.
Enter the settings in SigmaCart. Select MSG91 as the default gateway and save the required credentials.
Send a test message. Confirm that the approved template, Sender ID, recipient format, and delivery status are correct.

Choose the correct MSG91 service

Use the transactional SMS or Flow/API service for general SigmaCart messages. Do not select an OTP-only service if you also need store-owner or order-notification messages.

DLT compliance in India

Register the entity, Sender ID or header, and message templates on the applicable DLT platform. The MSG91 template text, variables, Template ID, Sender ID, and PE ID must match the approved DLT records.

MSG91 configuration fields

Country or route	Provider-specific value	Configure only when these fields appear in your SigmaCart version and match the MSG91 account setup.

Extra SMS configurations

After the default gateway passes testing, enable the SMS features required by your store.

Customer securityOTP verification Send a five-digit verification code to newly registered customers before verifying their account.

Store operationsNew-order notifications Notify store owners when an order is placed and optionally include the order value.

OTP verification on registration

Enable OTP verification from SMS Settings. SigmaCart generates a five-digit OTP and sends it through the selected default gateway.

OTP message template

Use a concise message that identifies the store and warns customers not to share the code.

Your SigmaCart verification code is {otp}. Do not share this code with anyone.

Preserve the OTP variable

Use the exact OTP placeholder supported by your SigmaCart version. For MSG91, ensure the final text and variable position match the approved provider or DLT template.

Store-owner new-order notifications

Enable this setting for each store that should receive an SMS when a customer places an order.

SMS troubleshooting

Problem	What to check
Authentication failed	Verify the Twilio Account SID and Auth Token, or the MSG91 Authkey and its SMS permissions.
Recipient rejected	Use international format with country code. Verify recipients when using a Twilio trial account.
Sender rejected	Confirm that the Twilio number supports SMS or that the MSG91 Sender ID is registered and approved.
Template mismatch	Check the Template/Flow ID, DLT Template ID, message text, variables, Sender ID, and PE ID.
OTP not delivered	Check the default gateway, account balance, number format, OTP variable, and provider delivery logs.
Order notification missing	Confirm the store-level setting is enabled and the owner number includes the correct country code.

Configuration complete

Test every enabled message with real account conditions before launching the store. Reliable SMS configuration improves registration security, customer confidence, order communication, and store operations.
