How to Add a Coupon

Create controlled promotional discounts for selected stores, define customer eligibility and redemption limits, and protect campaign margins with subtotal, expiry, and maximum-discount rules.

Open Coupon Management

Sign in to the SigmaCart Admin Panel, open the promotion section, and navigate to the coupon-management page.

Create a coupon step by step

Select Add New Coupon. Open the creation form from the Coupons page.
Enter the coupon name. Use an internal campaign name that clearly identifies the promotion.
Add a description. Briefly explain the offer, audience, or campaign purpose.
Create the coupon code. Use a short, memorable code such as WELCOME20 or SAVE100.
Choose the discount type. Select Fixed Amount Discount or Percentage Discount.
Enter the discount value. Use a currency amount for fixed discounts or a percentage value for percentage discounts.
Set the maximum discount when required. For a percentage offer, define a currency cap to protect margins.
Choose the expiry date. Select the final date on which the coupon should remain valid.
Select applicable stores. Choose one or more stores, or use Select All Stores when the campaign is marketplace-wide.
Configure redemption limits. Set the maximum total uses and the applicable customer-usage rule.
Add a minimum subtotal if needed. Enter the required cart subtotal and a clear message for customers who do not qualify.
Set the active status. Keep the coupon active only when it is ready for customer use.
Save and test. Submit the form, then test valid and invalid checkout scenarios before publishing the code.

Coupon field reference

Expiry Date	Yes	The campaign end date. Expired coupons are identified in the coupon list.
Applicable Stores	Yes	Restricts redemption to one or more selected stores.
Max Number of Uses in Total	Yes	Limits the combined number of successful redemptions across all customers.
Min Subtotal	No	Defines the minimum eligible cart subtotal in the configured currency.
Subtotal Message	No	Explains why the coupon cannot be applied when the subtotal is too low.
Coupon User Type	Yes	Defines customer eligibility and per-user redemption behavior.
Max Uses per User	Conditional	Required when Custom is selected as the user type.
Is Active	No	Controls whether the coupon can currently be redeemed.

Choose the discount type

Test discount boundaries

Test the coupon below, at, and above the minimum subtotal and maximum-discount threshold. Confirm currency rounding and tax or delivery-fee treatment in your installed version.

Configure customer eligibility

User type	Behavior	Best use
Unlimited Times for All Users	Eligible customers can reuse the coupon until the total limit or expiry is reached.	General promotions and recurring campaigns.
Once for New User for First Order	Restricts the coupon to a new customer’s first eligible order.	Customer-acquisition and welcome offers.
Once per User	Allows each eligible customer to redeem the coupon one time.	Fair, controlled campaigns for the existing customer base.
Define Custom Limit per User	Allows each customer to redeem up to the configured per-user limit.	Repeat-use campaigns with a controlled allowance.

Total and per-user limits work together

A custom per-user limit controls individual usage, while the maximum total-use value controls the entire campaign. The coupon becomes unavailable when an applicable limit is reached.

Select applicable stores

Select one store for a targeted offer. Use this for a store-funded or location-specific campaign.
Select multiple stores for a group campaign. Verify that each store accepts the discount terms.
Use Select All Stores carefully. Marketplace-wide coupons can have a larger financial impact.
Confirm mixed-store cart behavior. Test how your SigmaCart version handles eligible and ineligible stores within the same cart.
Review stores before reactivating. A previously configured coupon may include stores that have since been disabled or changed.

Test before promotion

Test the coupon before launch

Test an eligible order. Confirm the correct discount is applied at the selected store.
Test an ineligible store. Verify the coupon is rejected outside the assigned stores.
Test the minimum subtotal. Check carts below, equal to, and above the threshold.
Test customer eligibility. Validate new-user, first-order, once-per-user, or custom-limit behavior.
Test maximum discount. Use a large cart to confirm the percentage cap.
Test the expiry boundary. Verify the configured date and application time zone.
Confirm usage counts. Complete a controlled redemption and review total and per-user counters.
Review the final total. Confirm discounts, tax, delivery charges, store charges, and payment amount are correct.

Do not publish an untested coupon

An incorrect discount, missing cap, overly broad store selection, or unlimited eligibility can cause immediate revenue loss. Test with controlled accounts before advertising the code.

Manage existing coupons

The coupon list displays the name, applicable stores, code, type, discount, active status, usage count, expiry, minimum subtotal, maximum discount, and edit action.

Edit	Correct campaign details, stores, limits, eligibility, expiry, or status.
Deactivate	Stop new redemptions without removing the coupon record.
Extend Expiry	Continue a campaign only after reviewing its budget, limits, stores, and existing usage.
Review Usage	Monitor campaign adoption and stop or adjust the promotion when necessary.

Editing an active campaign

Changing discount values or eligibility while a coupon is public can create inconsistent customer expectations. Deactivate it before making material changes whenever practical.

Coupon troubleshooting

Problem	What to check
Coupon is not accepted	Check the exact code, active status, expiry, selected stores, subtotal, customer type, total usage, and per-user usage.
Discount is incorrect	Review amount versus percentage, discount value, maximum cap, cart subtotal basis, currency, and rounding.
Max Discount field is missing	Select Percentage Discount; the referenced Blade form reveals this field only for percentage coupons.
Per-user limit is missing	Select Define Custom Limit per User; the form then displays and requires the maximum uses per user.
Coupon works at the wrong store	Edit the coupon and review every selected applicable store, including any previous Select All Stores selection.
Coupon expired unexpectedly	Verify the expiry date, application time zone, server time zone, and campaign-end interpretation.
Usage count reached too early	Review completed redemptions, test orders, duplicate attempts, and how your version counts successful coupon use.
Coupon remains visible after deactivation	Clear relevant application or storefront caches and confirm the saved active status.

Coupon ready

Once discount calculations, stores, subtotal, expiry, customer eligibility, usage limits, messaging, and checkout totals have been verified, the coupon is ready to promote.
